Wall Finishes by Jay Iarussi
Wall Finishes have been a constant as far back as recorded history. The caveman had drawings, the 20th century even had lead. Currently there are numerous options as in paint, wallpaper, venetian plaster, tiled, faux finishes, plaster and many more. Today it seems folks are realizing the significance that a wall covering can make. The word "Faux" probably has been used in the last 5 years or so more than the word "hippy" was used in the 70's.

Painted Wall Finishes
A wall that has been covered with paint. A very popular and fast technique to cover walls. A painted wall is somewhat like carpet. Cheap and fast and you can be as proud as the next guy.

Wallpaper Wall Finishes
Wallpaper gained popularity in the Renaissance Era. The wealthy hung large tapestries to cover the stone and insulate as well. Today, wallpaper is still around and is categorized along the same line as a fast and cheap way to get the job done.

Venetian Plaster Wall Finishes

Venetian Plaster History Part 3
Evolving since 7500 B.C., Venetian Plaster's ingredients have evolved from lime, sand and marble dust to synthetic "Venetian plaster" often consisting of acrylic based plaster and water based waxes. Thankfully, though hard to find, authentic Venetian Plaster is still available today. It has been a timeless wall finish that looks magnificent and improves as it ages.

Tiled Wall Finishes
A wall that has been tiled. Usually tiled wall finishes appear in bathrooms. Tiled walls are effective against moisture created from the shower. Fortunately we have sealants that are effective against moisture, making a plaster wall finish a possibility in bathrooms.

Faux Wall Finishes
The definition of faux is fake. Faux finishes have been around since cave painting. In modern faux finishing, there are two major materials used. Glaze finishes employing a translucent mixture of paint and glaze applied with a brush, roller, rag, or sponge, and often mimics textures, but it always smooth to the touch. There's also the plaster and pigment process. Faux finishers usually have been trained in a commercialized and branded process.
